That is Kimberly Smith for you, an artist with a voice so soulful and music so captivating that she leaves her audience in a trance. Raised in Cocoa, Florida, Kimberly Smith graduated from Merritt High School and was soon able to carve her place at Brevard Community College where she also became the head of the African American student union.
After community college, Smith pursued her music further at Full Sail University but even before then music had been a core part of her life and her politics. She began singing with her father at the mere age of two and then continued to partake in different bands and choruses. The talented artist’s life was plagued by depression caused by her own personal demons and the systematic oppression she had to face as an African American woman. In this time, music became her lifeline for self-expression and a necessary channel for her politics.
Kimberly Smith released her first album “Grace” in 2010 and that led to critical acclaim. She began performing on shows like ‘Xposure’ and ‘Rhythm of Gospel Awards' and was even nominated for the Urban Contemporary Female Vocalist Award and the Digital Album of the year award. However, what really drove the driven artist to success were her soul-stirring recent singles “Go get it” and “Faith over Fear’.
The eclectic artist’s music was able to captivate the heart of audiences by narrating the story of the struggles of a woman whose faith in the Lord helped her persist through all hardships she encountered.
